ADA Compliance Products is an outgrowth of a building owner who faced an ADA access lawsuit in southern California. Even as a general contractor specializing in commercial and industrial construction, Harry Horner, the founder of ADA Compliance Products, was not prepared for the many nuances of ADA access requirements. After becoming involved with his business community’s effort of achieving ADA compliance, he was asked to appear before a Congressional House subcommittee in September of 2006 to testify, on behalf of small businesses, about the results of ADA legislation passed sixteen years earlier. At that hearing he testified as to his belief that commercial businesses and property owners are not fully aware of the ADA access requirements and are often “blindsided” with compliance issues. While working to become ADA compliant with his own commercial property, he realized that there are many quality products available to achieve disabled access that are low cost and easy to install.
